Hyacinthi Mwangu President

Hyacinthi Mwangu, is a Health Educator for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control in the Low Country. His work focus on the prevention of chronic diseases in Charleston and Dorchester County. He is known for his love of work on promoting health. Hyacinthi is a certified prevention specialist in substance use. Mr. Mwangu has been working on tobacco and other drugs prevention for more than 5 years and he joined Smoke-free Lowcountry fall of 2018. Hyacinthi enjoys his free time cooking, drawing, painting, exercises, watching sports, travel, gardening, and hang out with family and friends.



LaShandra N. Morgan, MPH, MHS Vice President

Lashandra works for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as a Health Educator. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry and a Master of Public Health degree. Currently, LaShandra is finishing her Doctorate of Education in Healthcare Education and is a Mental Health Specialist. She enjoys advocating for medically underserved populations and weaving health equity in every project she takes on. LaShandra is a mother of two and describes herself as an art advocate, tree-hugger, and Marvel Nerd.  LaShandra currently serves as Vice President and has served on the Board of Directors since 2018.



Wehme Hutto, MPA, CSPS, ICPS Treasurer

Hutto is the Director of Prevention & Community Services at the Ernest E. Kennedy Center in Berkeley County, a position she has held since 1995. She holds a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in non-profit and local government administration from the College of Charleston. She completed her BA from Clemson University majoring in Political Science. She is a Certified Senior Prevention Specialist (CSPS) through SCAPPA (South Carolina Association of Prevention Professionals & Advocates) and an Internationally Certified Prevention Specialist (ICPS) through IC&RC (International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium).

Hutto currently serves as the Treasurer of the Smoke-Free Lowcountry Coalition. She has previously served as President and has been a member of the coalition for 25 years. She and her family are multigenerational Lowcountry residents and are passionate about historic and coastal preservation.

 



Alana Rojewski, PhD Secretary

Dr. Rojewski is an Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences at MUSC and is the Associate Director of the MUSC Health Tobacco Treatment Program. She has been on the SFLC Board of Directors since 2015 and currently serves as the SFLC Secretary. Through her research, Dr. Rojewski aims to optimize tobacco treatment interventions in the healthcare setting. Outside of work, she is also passionate about her family, baking, and her garden.

 



Tracy Smith, PhD
Board Member

Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at MUSC and is a member of the Cancer Control Program at Hollings Cancer Center. She has been conducting research related to tobacco control and regulation for nine years. Dr. Smith joined SFLC in 2019, and joined the board of directors in 2020. In her free time, you can find her enjoying our beaches and ocean and spending time with her family. Dr. Smith also attended College of Charleston as an undergraduate and is originally from South Carolina.

 



Renee Richardson
Board Member

Renee Richardson is currently a Prevention Specialist at the Charleston Center. She has been employed with the Charleston Center for over 25 years. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Human Service. She enjoys helping others and is a native Charlestonian.
